Our Approach to Creating a Confident New Smile
Every person’s needs and desires for their smile are different. We customize each treatment plan and have the option of using a wide range of cosmetic procedures.
Our doctors are thorough and meticulous in cosmetic evaluation, planning and execution to ensure top-quality results that meet or exceed your expectations.
Exam, consultation and treatment plan
The first step is a full oral exam and X-rays. During your exam your doctor will attentively consult you about your smile goals and then can tailor-make your treatment to fit your exact needs.
Your doctor will present you with your customized treatment plan and different options, and explain them in an easy-to-understand manner, answering your questions so you can make an informed decision and comfortably move forward with your treatment.
Prior to any cosmetic treatment, our doctors will make sure your teeth are healthy so you have a solid foundation for long-lasting cosmetic results. You will be informed of any dental health issue needing to be addressed as part of your smile makeover plan.
Designing your smile
Your doctor will take photos of your smile and then take impressions of your teeth. From the impressions, a “study model” of your teeth and bite will be made. From your X-rays and study model, he or she will design your new smile.
If the changes to your smile are going to be extensive, your doctor can have a wax model made of your new smile as it will look after all procedures are completed. You will be able to preview and approve the proposed changes to make sure you are completely happy with them before starting your treatment.
Tooth preparation and temporary restorations
If you are receiving crowns, veneers or a bridge, your doctor will prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of tooth structure to make room for your restorations. We will then take an impression of your prepared teeth that will be sent to our lab.
Your doctor will place temporary restorations for you to wear while your final restorations are being crafted. All our extensive temporary restorations are lab-made and will resemble your final restorations, so that you can already get a good idea of what your new smile will look like. Our patients tell us that their friends can’t believe that these are temporary restorations, mistaking them for final restorations.
Your doctor will consult with you and make notes of any adjustments that need to be made so that you will be completely happy with how your final restorations will fit and look in your smile. Our dental lab will craft your final restorations according to our doctor’s detailed specifications and instructions.
Once your permanent restorations have arrived at our office, your doctor will try them out on your teeth with a gel that will temporarily hold them in place. We will look at the color with you under different lighting conditions, including outdoors in direct sunlight and shade, and have any desired adjustments made until you are completely satisfied.
Only then will your restorations be permanently placed. You will walk out of our office with a beautiful new smile of which you can be proud!
Cosmetic treatment can include the following procedures:
Dr. Bergmann and Dr. Izu can use a wide variety of procedures to create your new smile.
Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that cover the entire visible tooth surface and are placed to repair broken-down teeth or to top a dental implant. Our crowns are made of only the most durable and aesthetic materials. The doctors will match the crown’s color to blend in with the rest of your teeth, and will toothdesign them to align perfectly with your bite.
Porcelain veneers give your teeth a beautiful new look. Veneers can be designed to alter your tooth shape, close spaces between your teeth and change the color of your teeth. Our doctors design and place veneers with meticulous precision, so that they enhance your smile while looking totally natural.
Dental Bonding is a tooth-colored resin that is used to make minor cosmetic changes to your teeth. It can be used to fix chips, fill in a cavity, change the shape of your teeth or close gaps between teeth. It can even be used to give your teeth a new coating free of blemishes or discoloration. It is a faster and more economical solution than porcelain veneers but is less stain-resistant and chip-resistant.
A dental implant is a titanium post inserted into the jaw to function as a replacement root for a missing tooth. Dental implants are the strongest, most lifelike and longest-lasting tooth replacement option, and are considered the modern solution for missing teeth. With dental implants you can have replacement teeth that look and function just like natural teeth.
Although our doctors will generally recommend dental implants for eligible candidates, a traditional dental bridge is an option for replacing a missing tooth in cases where dental implants are not feasible. Our bridges are strong and very aesthetic. They are made to be well-fitting and to align perfectly with the rest of your bite.
We make custom trays for you to whiten your teeth at home. Our bleaching trays are made in such a way that you can apply the bleaching gel to your natural teeth only and not onto crowns or veneers. We use Opalescence® bleaching gel and offer several different strengths.
Aesthetic tooth recontouring
If your teeth are uneven or have jagged edges, your teeth can be gently recontoured to change their shape or angle, making them more aesthetic.
Cosmetic gum treatments
If you have an uneven gumline, excess gum tissue can be removed to make your smile look more symmetrical or less “gummy.” Also, gum grafting can be performed to replace any gum tissue that has been lost and may be affecting your appearance. Our doctors refer these procedures to a competent specialist who will perform these parts of your smile makeover as part of your overall treatment plan.
Partial or full dentures
Dr. Bergmann can create a partial or full denture to replace a series of missing teeth. As a prosthodontic specialist, he will make sure that your dentures are aesthetic, durable and well-fitting. He can make traditional dentures and he can also stabilize your dentures with implants so that they are completely secure in your mouth and provide excellent chewing power.
