Helping you achieve your smile goals
Our doctors are dedicated to providing you the best-quality dentistry possible to help you achieve your smile goals. They know that a beautiful smile needs a foundation of excellent dental health. Thus they plan your treatments to include preserving your dental health so your smile can be both beautiful and long-lasting.
Your New Patient Exam
Here’s what will happen during your new patient exam:
We start by taking a full series of digital X-rays of your teeth and jaw. Our digital X-ray devices emit only a small fraction of the radiation used by traditional X-ray machines. The X-ray images appear instantly on an iPad so you and the doctor can look at them together while discussing the results of your exam.
The doctor will go over your health history with you, and will ask you about your dental concerns and your goals for your smile. The doctor will listen to you and ask questions in order to understand exactly what you would like to address. They will also answer any questions you may have.
Detailed oral exam
You will receive a detailed exam which will cover all aspects of your health and smile. After reviewing your X-rays, the doctor will first perform an oral cancer screening and an assessment of your bite and jaw joints to see if there are any TMJ (jaw joint) problems.
The doctor will thoroughly inspect each of your teeth. Any decay, broken fillings, damaged restorations or broken teeth will be observed and noted. He or she will also check for any loose teeth and will note any that are missing. If you have any dental implants from prior treatment, they will be checked for health and stability.
The doctor will gently probe the depth of your gum pockets to assess the extent of any gum disease, and will inspect your gums for any gum recession.
Exam results and treatment options
Dr. Bergmann or Dr. Izu will take great care to explain the results of your exam to you in detail. The doctors will present your treatment options and will take the time to discuss them with you. They will answer any questions in terms you can understand, so that you can make an informed decision about treatment.
The doctors feel it is their responsibility to let you know what your treatment options are so you can make an informed decision. This way you can always live with your decision because you don’t have to look back later saying “I wish I had known that there are other options.”
